Tik Tok closed again in Pakistan - Today GD News

Web Desk - China's leading video sharing application Tik Tok has been shut down once again in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) on Wednesday said that under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, access to the Tik Tok application and its website is being blocked in the country.

In a statement issued on Twitter, the PTA said that the action was taken due to the constant presence of inappropriate content on the platform and the failure of Tik Tok to take action against such content.

Tik Tak, a popular application for video content, has been banned three times in Pakistan before.

Earlier this month, the Sindh High Court had also banned Tik Tok

The petition filed in the Sindh High Court stated that videos were being played on the Tik Tok application which had a profound negative impact on the younger generation. Pornographic material is released that is against the country's culture and religious principles.

The Sindh High Court had lifted the ban on Tik Tok two days later on the petition, but the court had directed Tik Tok to address the complaints of the users regarding objectionable content.

This month, Tik Tok released its quarterly transparency report stating that Tik Tok had removed 64.96 million videos from its platform in Pakistan. The number of videos removed in the United States was 8.5 million.

Pakistan is the second-largest market after the United States where most videos have been removed.
